Cultivate More Than Your Market–Corporate Responsibility

February 23, 2017

On February 22, Modo Modo Agency set out on a mission. A mission to do some good, help the community, and have a little fun. It was our first DoGooder of 2017, and we were getting our hands (and clothes) dirty with the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB).

Modo Modo has been volunteering quarterly with their DoGooder program since 2008 and we’ve now donated over 2,500 hours of service. It’s a great way to get employees engaged in things and causes they love beyond the office.

The Atlanta Community Food Bank is a nonprofit organization that aims to ‘fight hunger by engaging, educating and empowering [the] community.’ It distributes over 60 million meals to more than 755,000 people in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

But that’s not all the ACFB does. It also empowers the community through the cultivation of local gardens, marathon fundraisers, teaching the community about economic benefits, and much more.

We Modoers focused on cultivating a local community garden in Atlanta. Our team split into a few groups, each with a different gardening task. We dug rows, gathered compost, and soiled the beds for crops. And we picked weeds and mulched for various produce, including lettuce, garlic, muscadine vines, and blueberries.

Our on-site representative, Flannery was a warm and knowledgeable guide throughout the day. She explained the importance of these community gardens: they stimulate social interaction, beautify neighborhoods, reduce crime, and produce nutritious foods while reducing food budgets. The gardens also make use of vacant lots or any other open green spaces within a community.

After a long day’s work and a lot of team bonding, we left feeling accomplished and grateful for such a fun opportunity to lend a helping hand. It was an experience this humble agency won’t forget. And we hope that it inspires you to get out and do some good in your community, too!
